Live and Die Awake

What do the Canyons Know?

On soulful erosion, descent, and what may be revealed.

June 28, 2026

Glenn and I recently traveled to Bryce and Zion national parks. It was magical and surreal. I literally felt as though it was a scene out of Star Trek and we were beamed to a location that was not like any other we had ever experienced.

When reflecting on our journey we realized that sometimes nature doesn’t answer our questions, yet instead it changes the questions we ask.

As we walked through the rim of Bryce Canyon and later stood beneath the towering sandstone walls of Zion in the water amongst, pebbles and rocks that have been shaped and formed by the force of nature, we found ourselves wondering how landscapes like these could possibly come into being. Glenn inquired if there was one defining event? An earthquake? An Ice Age? Some unimaginable force that transformed the land in an instant?

As we learned more, we discovered something both simple and profound. These places were not shaped by one extraordinary moment. They were shaped by millions of ordinary ones. Water finding the same path over and over. Winter freezing and then releasing stone, while wind carried away what had become loose.

Time doing what time has always done.

Like many people, we have both spent years sitting with stories of healing, loss, resilience, and transformation. Working within ourselves and with clients.
