The Eternal Soul
Julie’s Reflection Pause for this chapter is set out below in full, in her words. 12 questions to sit with, and a journal is all they ask for.
Reflection Pause: Continuity of the Soul
Julie prints this at the end of the chapter. It is here in her words, unedited.
Whether understood through religion, philosophy, or personal experience, the idea that the soul continues invites us to consider our lives as part of a larger unfolding. Even if we do not know what lies beyond death, the possibility alone can shift how we live today with more intention, compassion, and presence.
Please take a slow breath before reflecting. You do not need to decide what you believe. You are simply being invited to explore what may feel meaningful within you.
Considering Continuity
- When you reflect on the possibility that life or consciousness continues beyond death, what thoughts or feelings arise?
- Does this idea bring comfort, curiosity, resistance, or uncertainty?
- What feels most true to you right now?
Identity Beyond Time
- Is there a part of you that feels consistent throughout your life, beyond roles, age, or circumstances?
- When have you felt most connected to something deeper than your daily identity?
- What might this suggest about the nature of your inner self?
Meaning and Purpose
If life is part of a larger unfolding whether across time, generations, or spiritual reincarnation or rebirth:
- What lessons or growth might your life be inviting you to consider?
- What feels most important for you to experience, express, or contribute while you are here?
- How does reflecting on spiritual continuity, reincarnation, or rebirth influence your sense of purpose?
Living with Greater Awareness
Living and Dying Awake invites presence within impermanence.
- How might your choices change if you viewed your life as part of something larger than this moment alone?
- What would you want to prioritize more deeply?
- What fears might soften?
Closing Integration
Complete one or both sentences with what naturally comes up for you:
If my life is part of a larger journey, I want to live it by ____________________ or
What feels most meaningful for me now is ____________________.
Regardless of what we believe about what comes after death, remembering the preciousness and possibility of this life can guide us to live with greater presence, compassion, and purpose today.
