Becoming the Light
Julie’s Reflection Pause for this chapter is set out below in full, in her words. 12 questions to sit with, and a journal is all they ask for.
Reflection Pause: Rising from the Ashes
Julie prints this at the end of the chapter. It is here in her words, unedited.
Take a few quiet breaths before beginning and allow the words of this final meditation to settle within you. You may wish to place your hands over your heart as you reflect. Please know there is no right answer and there is no rush. Please allow your responses to arise from the deepest knowing within you.
Witnessing the Ashes – Honoring What Was Lost
- What experiences in your life have felt like ashes—moments of loss, heartbreak, or transformation that changed you forever?
- When you allow yourself to remember these moments with honesty, what emotions or sensations arise within your body?
- What has this pain taught you about love, vulnerability, and what truly matters?
- In what ways did these experiences shape the person you have become today?
Remembering the Light Within
- When you look back on your life, where can you see evidence of your resilience, courage, or quiet strength?
- What inner qualities helped you continue forward, even in your most difficult moments?
- Where in your life today do you feel the presence of light—peace, love, gratitude, connection, or meaning?
- What part of your soul feels more awake now than it did before these experiences?
Rising – Choosing How I Will Live
- If you truly believed that your life and your experiences have refined you rather than broken you, how would you live differently?
- What does becoming the light mean in the way you treat yourself?
- How might your presence bring compassion, wisdom, or healing to others?
- What values or truths do you now feel called to live more fully?
Closing Integration
You are not defined by the moments that broke your heart. You are shaped by the love, courage, and awareness that rose from them. This is the path of Living and Dying Awake to honor both the ashes and the light, and to live fully from the wisdom they reveal. I invite you to place your hands over your heart once more and complete one or more of following sentences from your deepest truth:
From the ashes of my life, I have learned that ____________________.
The light that lives within me is ____________________.
From this moment forward, I choose to live ____________________.
